4.1 Explain your own role in supporting others to follow practices that reduce the spread of infection
I play a role in supporting others to follow practices that reduce the spread of infection by doing the following:
- Washing my hands frequently and properly, especially before and after I touch my face
- Disinfecting surfaces that may be contaminated with germs, such as doorknobs, countertops, and phones
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
- Staying home when I am feeling ill
- Telling my sexual partner(s) to get tested for STI/STD if I have an infection.
In addition to the above, I keep my own practices clean and tidy by:
Keeping my living space clean and free from clutter. I avoid sharing utensils with others, including family members. When I cook, I use a separate work surface for meat and vegetables so that any germs from raw meat will not spread onto other food that I want to eat cooked. Using hot soapy water or cleaning wipes to clean my work surfaces, phone, and anything else that might be contaminated with germs.
Sanitizing my keyboard and mouse frequently (especially after sick coworkers touch them). Using hand sanitizer to protect me from germs when soap and water are not available. Using a disinfectant spray on shared objects, such as doorknobs or light switches.
I also avoid close contact with people who are sick by not shaking their hands or touching any contaminated surfaces that they have touched (such as the handles of grocery carts). If I touch my face after someone else has touched an object, I make sure to wash my hands.
