University | University of Leeds (UOL) |
Subject | unit 36 advanced mechanical principles Assignment |
Task 1:
A metal bar 20 Ci in diameter was subjected to a compressed load of 800 KN and, measured decreases of 80 Car gauge length was 0.06368 mim and the change in diameter was 0.006365 mm. Calculate the following:
a) The Linear strain and the [ateral strain
b) The elastic constants (Bulk Modulus, Modulus of Elasticity, Modulus of Rigidity and Poisson’s Ratio).
Task 2:
A plate of Aluminium is subjected to 20 and 12 KN loadings in both X and Y directions respectively. Take the dimensions of the plate as shown in the figure. The values of modulus of clasticity and Poisson’s ratio are 71Gpa and 0.3 respectively. YY Determine the following: –
1. Stress, strain in x —direction, and change in x -dimension.
2. Stress, Strain in y —direction and change in y -dimension.
3. The elastic constants (Modulus of Rigidity, and Bulk | »/ modulus of elasticity); g
4. Illustrate the effect of two- Dimensional loading on x and y directions according to your answers.
Task 3: . = 50 MPe
Stress analysis of a spacecraft structure member gives the state of stress shown in the figure. If the part is made from 7075-T6 aluminum
cube whose sides are initially 200 mm. Take the ¢, = 100 MPa values of modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio are 72Gpa and 0.32 respectively. @, = 200 MPa Determine the following:
1. The elastic constants (Modulus of Rigidity, and Bulk modulus of elasticity);
2. Strain in x —direction and change in x -dimension.
3. Strain in y —direction and change in y -dimension.
