Introduction
The Project Management in Business module introduces students to the exciting world of projects, with project management being a very fast-growing profession utilizing a skillset much valued by employers. The content is based on the Association for Project Management (APM) Body of Knowledge Version 7; the leading association for professional project management. These project management skills will be transferable to a wide range of job roles which students may aspire to as well as directly for project management roles.
Assessment Tasks
Using your knowledge and skills built from across the module, the task for this assessment is to undertake a critical review of a project and produce a reflective project management case study report. Details of areas to cover are outlined below.
Task 1
You should consider the project management tools, techniques and processes discussed during the unit and outline your understanding and evaluation of:
- The role of projects in delivering organizational strategy.
- The process for initiating, planning and managing projects.
Task 2
Once again, considering the project management tools, techniques and processes discussed during the unit, critically review whether they were followed in your chosen case study project, in relation to at least 3of the following topics, whilst also analyzing their effectiveness:
- Project context
- Stakeholder management
- Governance & Monitoring progress
- Outputs, outcomes and benefits; reporting and achievement
- Data and information
- Problem solving and decision making
- Risk Management
Task 3
Finally, with reference to your chosen project, you should outline which factors contributed to effective project management and which were absent. You should also make recommendations for similar projects in the future.
Your Chosen Project
The project can either be one you have chosen yourself or one of the three examples detailed below:
- The 2012 Olympics Infrastructure.
- The HMRC change programmed “Making Tax Digital service for VAT”.
- A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme
Students will be required to investigate and research additional information to that covered in lectures and seminars in order to undertake a critical review, whilst also demonstrating the application of relevant concepts, theories, tools, techniques and processes, supported by a wide range of credible academic sources.
Formative assessment opportunities will be provided during the seminars through the completion of case study exercises, presentations, draft online submissions etc.
This must be your own work; i.e. you cannot submit work that is the same as other students or those that you may be working with for other assessments. If you do so, then any such work will be subject to our academic misconduct guidelines & procedures
Please note that there is only 1 assessment for this unit, which you will need to pass otherwise risk not proceeding onto Level 6 or gaining your Honors degree. You will have been supported through formative/summative assessment checkpoints. Activities are interwoven throughout the module, so it is vital to engage in all activities and ask questions!
